Discretion Delivers

Pr 2:10 ¶ When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

The Evil Man is described here for us so that we can avoid his company and also avoid becoming this man. This passage shows us the progression of the evil man. Let these characteristics be a warning sign to you.

v. 12 - His Words are froward or perverse. A persons speech can tell us a lot about him.
v. 13 - His Walk has departed from the right path and is directed toward darkness.
v. 14 - His WooHoo - He delights in his sin and he draws others to sin with him.

I do not want to be considered an evil man and I want to have enough wisdom to realize who will help me to grow closer to God and who will get me off the right track.

Learning from others mistakes

I wanted to put my outline into print in case you were not able to be at all three Sunday School sessions. I hope this will be a help to you. Please feel free to add any comments you might have.

Learning From Other’s Mistakes
Hosea 8

Intro. This is the best way to learn. What have you learned by another person’s mistake?

1. Don’t cast off the good v. 3
2. Don’t be a do it yourselfer v. 4 (Consult God in your decisions)
3. Don’t play Mr. Innocent v. 5 (Just be honest)
4. Don’t sow what you don’t want to reap v. 7 (Decisions of young adults)
5. Don’t let sin swallow you up v. 8 (God found no pleasure in them)
6. Don’t wander away from God v. 9 (Who or what do we go to for help?)
7. Don’t forget that God wants to restore you v. 10 (His unconditional love for you)
8. Don’t make ways for yourself to sin v. 11 (Not just wandering into sin or stumbling – Devising ways)
9. Don’t let God’s Word be a strange thing to you v. 12 (Get familiar with it)
10. Don’t offer unworthy sacrifices to God v. 13 (What sacrifices do we offer to God?)
11. Don’t forget about God when developing your future plans v. 14 (Devoured by fire)

Conclusion: Here is the list…will you avoid the same mistakes?

It's been a long time

It has been quite a while since I entered anything on this blog. I am sorry about the absence but I am making it a point to update this a few times a week. You can find thoughts from our Wednesday night Bible studies as well as our Sunday morning studies. I'll also try to post pictures from time to time of our activities.

My quote as I begin the school year is, "Discipline starts today!" This quote is one that I need to recite over and over to myself. I am the great excuse maker and I'm not too bad at procrastination either. This is a deadly combination to deal with. Discipline applies to every area of my life; my Bible study time, my eating, my exercising, my entertainment, and any other area you would like to place in there.

The verse shared on Sunday by Dr. Gibbs has been a real help to me this week in the area of the discipline of holiness. 1Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; In every area of my life God demands holiness. I have quoted this verse many times already this week in an effort to keep this idea always before me. I'd encourage you to take a look at the verse and seek to apply it to your life as well.
